Iron sulphate is a water-soluble substance with green crystals. The product is used as a flocculant in water treatment to precipitate phosphorus from wastewater.
Iron sulphate (FeSO4), even copperas, can also be used for painting of wooden facades. The treatment gives the wood a gray shade that after a time imitates old untreated wood. The substance is included in Falu red paint and is considered to have some protection against rot. Iron sulfate is also used as a mordant in vegetable dyeing and is also used for moss control and as iron supplementation in pig feed.
