Barium hydroxide

moln

Barium hydroxide is a chemical compound used in analytical chemistry to purify water from carbonate ions (carbonic acid), where it neutralizes the carbon dioxide and forms barium carbonate that precipitates in solid form.

Barium hydroxide Ba(OH)2 is formed when barium oxide is dissolved in water. The substance is also called barium hydrate. Dissolved in water barium hydroxide is strongly alkaline. The solubility increases greatly with temperature.
In crystal form barium hydroxide occurs usually as monohydrate or octahedral form.
