As tax subsidies for the use of fossil fuels decrease, it becomes more worthwhile to review other options. Fossil fuels are the biggest source of greenhouse gas emissions. According to a proposition from 2008, the aim is to phase out all fossil fuels by 2030 and that there should be no net emissions of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by 2050. From a climate and environmental point of view conversion provides a reduction of CO2 emissions by up to 95%.
Expensive to burn fossils – A government measure to reduce the use of fossil fuels is a gradual decline of tax reduction, that as 2014 was 70 percent for both energy and carbon tax. Last year the carbon dioxide tax was reduced to 40% and in the year 2016, tax relief dropped to 20 percent. The next step for tax reduction for fossil fuels is to phase it out completely while oil prices, which remained at an historically low level, is on the way up.
A calculation example – For a manufacturing industry with an annual consumption of 600 m3 heating oil, with a price of 7 000 SEK/m3 including tax, it means that the reduction in tax deductions for an additional cost of 578 000 dollars in 2015 and 963 000 crowns in the year 2016, compared with 2014.
– It hits hard and means a lot to the overall economy, said Lars Åström, explaining that in addition to the environmental benefits are also strong economic incentives for conversion to bio-oil.
– Wibax has a sustainability statement, which means that the bio-oils are completely exempt from tax. To invest in bio-oil is a comparatively small investment compared to solid biofuels. Bio-oil also has lower operating costs, says Lars Åström.
Custom products – Wibax offers several different types of bio-oil to heating plants, paper mills and other industries, for interference and replacement of fossil oils in incinerators and other technical applications, as well as explosives. Bio-oils are derived from waste products from the industries around the world. All of the oil that is purchased is tested and analyzed thoroughly.
– We buy from industries all over the world, and have large contact surfaces. Our organization is large, with purchasers who are skilled at finding new and stable suppliers, concludes Lars Åström.
