Sulphuric acid is used mainly in the pulp and paper, mining and metal industry.
Sulphuric acid (H2SO4) is prepared by further oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide with water to form sulphuric acid. The product is used in adhesives, detergents, descaling, fire extinguishing agents, herbicides, and for metal processing (rust removal). In industry, sulphuric acid is used e.g. for cleaning of heat exchangers. The product is also used as an electrolyte in lead-acid batteries, in the manufacturing of explosives, fertilizers and dyes. Concentrated sulphuric acid absorbs water from the air and is therefore to some extent used to dry air.
Sulphuric acid is a colourless/white powder soluble in water. The product is highly corrosive.
